Russian forest fire season has started

With little snow during winter and a warm spring with low precipitation, forest fires in Russia are starting early. Data from the Russian Aerial Forest Protection Service indicate that the first forest fires ignited late February. The state organisation notes that the main cause of forest fires is the human factor.

According to The Moscow Times, forest fires in Siberia in 2019 covered an area the size of Belgium and, at their peak, caused damage of at least $100 million.
