In recent years Moelven’s plywood production has enjoyed steady growth. 2016 to 2019, the company has sported an annual growth rate of around 10%. The mill produces softwood plywood from spruce and pine, mainly for construction purposes. Throughout the 2010s Swedish building activity has been strong, which has boosted Moelven Vänerply’s sales.
Despite the increase in turnover during 2018 and 2019, profitability has stayed under pressure. Moelven Vänerply is the only plywood producer in Sweden. The company focuses on the domestic market. All the competition comes from outside of Sweden and is impacted by fluctuations in currency exchange rates.
According to Moelven the Otterbäcken plywood mill’s capacity is 90 000 m3 and it employs 140 people. Moelven bought Vänerply in 2011. The mill has had a substantial investment program during the last years. The original machinery dated back to the 1970s.
Moelven Group produces a variety of wood products. In 2019 the group’s turnover was 972 million EUR and its employee count 3400.
