From March 2019 the spruce stumpage price is down -3.7%, birch -3.3%. In the 1st quarter of 2020 the prices show a slight recovery. Due to the warm winter and soft soil, areas suitable only for winter harvesting have been left untouched. This creates shortage in the round timber market and increases the prices. Stumpage price means the market value of standing trees. The delivery cost to the mill gate is additional.
The long term log prices correlate with the demand of end products. In the 2010s, the highest prices for Finnish logs were paid during the 4th quarter of 2018.
