Finnish log prices remain stable

The declining forest product prices have little impact on the raw material price in Finland. Despite the constant price pressure on plywood and sawn timber, log prices have remained solid. Last winter the difficult harvesting conditions created a shortage in log supply. That partly explained the unchanged log prices. Stumpage price means the market value of standing trees. The delivery cost to the mill gate is additional.

Since the beginning of 2019 industrial demand for birch logs has been low. This reflects a turn in the birch plywood market. Almost all the Finnish birch logs end up in plywood production. During the first six months of 2020, birch log purchases amounted to 295 000 m3.
